Violence Reduction Network (VRN) Webinar – Insight Policing

Insight policing is a community-based, problem-solving policing strategy that integrates conflict resolution and communication skills with policing skills to help reduce retaliatory violence and enhance police legitimacy in the moment of enforcement. Insight policing empowers officers to effectively de-escalate conflict behavior to ultimately facilitate feasible alternatives to use of force and build civilian trust. It was developed as a practical response to the challenges police face stemming from retaliatory violence and community noncooperation.

WGNtv.com recently published an article titled, “Chicago Police Supt. Johnson kicks off new program aimed at rebuilding community trust.” The article highlights the Chicago Police Department initiative, “Policing at the Speed of Trust,” which is designed to help build trust between the community and the police department, and help reduce violence.

Please join the Violence Reduction Network (VRN) for the webinar, “Utilizing License Plate Readers for Violence Reduction” on Wednesday, June 15, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET. This webinar will provide law enforcement officials with an overview of automated license plate readers (ALPRs). Specifically, participants will learn how to establish a program, the development of policies for ALPR use, ALPR successes, and the development of implementation plans.

VRN Webinar: Recruiting a Diverse Police Department Through Digital Outreach

A police department that reflects the ethnic, gender and racial makeup of the communities it serves helps to build trust and improve relationships. Commitment to encouraging diversity in the police force has immense value both internally and externally.

On September 29, Attorney General Eric Holder and the Office of Justice Programs’ (OJP) Assistant Attorney General Karol V. Mason launched the Violence Reduction Network (VRN), a national comprehensive approach to reduce violent crime in communities around the country.
