Webinar - New Findings in SPI

On May 10, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) will present a webinar on “New Findings in SPI.” Since SPI began in 2009, more than 50 SPI projects have been funded to test and evaluate evidence-based policing tactics and strategies. This webinar will feature four SPI sites—Boston, Massachusetts; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; and Rochester, New York—that recently completed their evaluation research.

Webinar - The Benefits of Collaborative Policing

On February 22, the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) will present a webinar on “The Benefits of Collaborative Policing.” This policing approach – which combines collaboration with problem solving and evidence-based policing – builds community trust, support, and cooperation while achieving more effective and long-lasting crime reduction benefits.

On Monday, September 28, Deputy Attorney General Sally Q. Yates announced that the Department of Justice awarded more than $2 million in funding for the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI). SPI is a collaborative consortium composed of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), CNA, and over thirty local law enforcement agencies that are testing solutions to serious crime problems in their jurisdictions.

SPI Webinar - Less Lethal Technologies in Law Enforcement

On August 26th, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. ET, the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) will present a webinar titled “Less Lethal Technologies for Law Enforcement.” This webinar will be presented by Mr. Charles Stephenson, SPI Subject Matter Expert. This webinar will describe devices/weapons classified as less-than-lethal used by law enforcement departments. Mr. Stephenson will provide a brief introduction to less lethal technologies along with notes on the effectiveness of several devices in use today.

Please join the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) webinar, “Basics of Evaluation for Practitioners,” on Wednesday, February 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST. This webinar will describe the key components of SPI in the context of research and evaluation. In addition, the webinar will review different types of evaluation and data collection, and how evaluation fits into the problem-solving process (i.e., the SARA model).

The Impact of Body Worn Cameras: The Phoenix SPI

On December 10 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. EST, the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) will present a webinar titled “The Impact of Body Worn Cameras: The Phoenix SPI”.
