    Join Justice Clearinghouse and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) for their webinar “Local Strategies to Combat the Global Problem of Human Trafficking” on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 3:00–4:15 p.m. ET. Presenters will discuss the findings in PERF’s recently published report that examines ways in which law enforcement in partnership with other agencies can respond to human trafficking. Presenters will also highlight methods other jurisdictions have adopted to address the issue.

    Access the Police Executive Research Forum’s Report on Combatting Human Trafficking

    In August 2020, the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) released the report “How Local Police Can Combat the Global Problem of Human Trafficking: Collaboration, Training, Support for Victims, and Technology Are Keys to Success.” The report was developed from PERF’s Critical Issues in Policing conference held on August 5, 2019, where approximately 200 individuals from diverse backgrounds in anti-trafficking participated in dynamic discussions on the issue.

    Enhanced Collaborative Model (ECM) human trafficking task forces are a prime example of how a wide spectrum of governmental and non-governmental agencies can work together to help bring traffickers to justice, help survivors heal, and raise education and awareness in communities. Sharing information across disciplines is vital to the success of each task force; however, it can be challenging to navigate the information sharing policies of each agency and balance the need for collaboration with the need to maintain legal, professional, and ethical confidentiality standards.

    The Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking applications for its FY 2020 Northern and Middle States Rural Law Enforcement Training and Technical Assistance Grant Program. This program, which supports smaller, rural, and tribal law enforcement agencies in northern and middle states, will provide training and technical assistance (TTA) to help reduce violent crimes, including drug-related crimes and human trafficking.

    Effective Strategies to Investigate and Prosecute Labor Trafficking in the United States (Sept 2019)

    This two-and-a-half-day training, sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and AEquitas: The Prosecutors’ Resource on Violence Against Women and funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is designed to prepare participants to identify, investigate, and prosecute labor trafficking crimes.

    This course will enable investigators and prosecutors to proactively identify victims of labor trafficking and effectively investigate and prosecute offenders using best practices and a trauma-centered approach.
