forensics

Join the Justice Clearinghouse for the webinar “Forensics at the Speed of Crime” on Thursday, September 28 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET. During this webinar, participants will learn about transformational forensics, which promotes the reliable, comprehensive, and timely access to shooting intelligence and evidence after a gun-related incident.

Webinar - Forensics at the Speed of Crime

Transformational forensics is a concept in which there is a commitment on the part of forensic science laboratories to collaborate with clients and stakeholders to identify needed change and creating a vision to guide that change so that our communities can become safer places for all to have an opportunity to reach their potential. With respect to gun-related crime, the chief need for the investigators is to have reliable, comprehensive, and timely intelligence with respect to the shooting activity that is occurring in the streets, an activity that is best determined using forensics.

Wrongful Conviction Training (Mar 2017)

NACDL will conduct an in-person, one-day training for at least 150 defense attorneys on litigating post-conviction claims of innocence. The goal of this training is to increase the ability of attorneys representing individuals in post-conviction proceedings to efficiently and effectively evaluate and litigate cases involving claims of innocence.

Wrongful Conviction Training (Apr 2016)

NACDL, in collaboration with the Innocence Network, presents an essential new training specifically for lawyers who handle post-conviction innocence clams. National experts will provide state-of-the-art instruction on topics essential for today’s post-conviction litigation: low level DNA mixture interpretation and cognitive bias in the forensic sciences, as well as a federal habeas overview and strategies. Recent developments in DNA mixture interpretation make this training crucial for any lawyer involved in potential innocence claims. Our experts will provide a scientific primer on DNA mixtures, then move on to new developments, guideline changes, and the impact on post-conviction cases. In the afternoon, our expert faculty will discuss the science of cognitive bias and provide practical instruction on how to use that information in your cases. Indispensable instruction on federal habeas relief will round out the program.

Mississippi Public Defense Training

NACDL will present a program titled "Taking the Fear out of Forensics" for indigent defenders in Mississippi. Defenders in Tennessee, Louisiana, and Alabama are also welcome to attend. The seminar will take place on March 17-18, 2015 at the University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford, MS (pending BJA conference approval). The program is free and open only to public defenders and private assigned counsel in Missisippi.
