    Check Out an Innovative Program Supporting Youth and Reducing Juvenile Recidivism in California

    Across juvenile detention centers in California, the InsideOUT Writers (IOW) Program promotes positive development and offers an outlet for self-expression to incarcerated youth. With roots in a program started in 1996 by Sister Janet Harris, chaplain of a Los Angeles, California juvenile hall, IOW empowers participants to express themselves and cultivate self-confidence and self-appreciation through creative writing classes and writing retreats.

    National Criminal Justice Association

    The National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) works to promote a balanced approach to communities’ complex public safety, criminal, and juvenile justice system problems. The NCJA offers a number of different opportunities to enhance the professional development of state and local criminal and juvenile justice decisionmakers and policymakers through both educational training and events. NCJA also promotes a variety of events and conferences, all designed to increase networking opportunities and to foster the exchange of valuable knowledge and skills.
