Cost-Benefit Analysis for Reducing Recidivism Webinar

Thursday, May 19, 2016 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

As part of the Justice Reinvestment Initiative, Michael Wilson Consulting created a cost-benefit analysis model to examine programs and policies designed to reduce recidivism. This model uses state and county-specific data to approximate the costs of crime in a given jurisdiction and estimate the monetary benefits of crime reduction. The tool was provided to two counties as a trial to help build local capacity to conduct comprehensive cost-benefit analysis for local jurisdictions.

In this webinar, Michael Wilson presented the tool to the larger criminal justice community and provided an overview of the work completed in Johnson County (KS) and Allegheny County (PA). Mr. Wilson was joined by a representative from Allegheny County, who shared the county’s experience in the process and how it plans to use the cost-benefit analysis model to shape policy and practice. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions.
